Food exists of eatable and drinkable materials which a living being needs and takes to build up the organism and to keep health good. Food contains as known rich organic materials with energy. Food will be chewed after the admission into the mouth mechanically (e.g.) and chemically (e.g., gastric acid). The body uses this for his life processes. The energy stored in certain food components is used in the energy metabolism to hold the body temperature steady, e.g.,. Besides the energy from the food is used in the anabolic metabolism (Anabolismus or building material change) for preservation and construction of the body (e.g., growth with children or muscle construction with adults). Waters and salts also belong to the food, even if they cannot be used directly in the energy metabolism. Vitamins belong to the food. The lack of food is called hunger and can lead to the death of a living being (death from starvation).
